 Cowboy Camps

The Lozier's Box "R" Ranch invites you to join us during one of our Cowboy Camp weeks. These two weeks are a vital preamble to the ranch’s season ahead. A host of horseback chores will await us from sunrise to sunset, including round-ups, brandings, or helping the wranglers get a few circle rides on our colts and young stock that will eventually take their place in our guest horse roster. Guests may join in these spring activities and chores while taking advantage of the opportunity to learn more about ranching and the cowboy life. Choose the extent of your participation in the riding and ranch activities to create yourself a great vacation on a true working ranch.

Each Sunday - as with all vacations   - after arriving at the Lozier's Box "R" Ranch, we will show you to your accommodations, give you a chance to recover from your travels. Stroll about the ranch, visit the barn and get to know each other over a wonderful evening meal. After supper we will familiarize you with the ranch operation and planned activities for the week.

Monday - After a hearty breakfast, we will gather at the barn to introduce you to your four-legged partner and work our way through a thorough, informative, and exciting basic horsemanship program. This will help to familiarize you with some of our cowboy tricks, which will better prepare you for a week of riding and ranch working activities. We do require that all riders be comfortable with their tack and mount, that they are capable of mounting and dismounting, handling a trot and canter safely, and are at ease in open space riding before leaving the ranch. We will spend the morning instructing you how to get your horse to do what YOU want in a controlled manner, which will result in an enjoyable week of riding. If time permits we will take a trail ride along the numerous wildlife trails throughout the ranch.

After lunch back at the ranch house, we will return to the arena for an exciting
afternoon of live cattle work. For our cattle drive weeks we will teach you how to think like a cow and handle cattle in a controlled manner. During all weeks at the ranch we will have some cowboy fun with team penning and roping. Guests are encouraged participate in these events to the extent they desire.

Upon your return to the ranch, indulge in superb evening meals consisting of steaks, chops, prime rib, fresh breads, salad bar and fancy deserts, then enjoy a peaceful evening under star studded skies, with the campfire flickering as we sing some songs or share stories and jokes from around the country. This vacation provides for a lot of individual riding with little or no nose-to-tail trail riding. Anglers may enjoy fishing on Willow Creek’s four mile course through the ranch or in several private ponds. There are endless opportunities for all levels of hiking enthusiasts, photographers, and those who enjoy the revitalizing pure mountain air.

Tuesday - Friday - early in the season we like to leave ourselves a “loose” agenda with plenty of options for a week of liberties and freedoms. These will include cattle work such as: branding left over or late born calves, riding and doctoring cattle herds, sorting cattle for specific pasture/grazing allotments, and moving cattle to summer ranges. Ranch activities will include riding and/or repairing pasture fences, or riding and cleaning wilderness trails of winter debris. Other activities might include taking in an all day scenic ride into the wilderness with a sack lunch and a snow bank frosted drink, dressing up your horsemanship skills or hopping up at sunrise to wrangle in the horse herd. Since this is the birthing period for our large wildlife, plan on sneaking out to view the numerous newly born antelope, moose, elk, and deer.

June 6th - 12th
Adult only weeks are age 18+ (Age 15-17 with Guardian)

$1295 double   /  $1495 single   /   $1095 triple+

There are endless opportunities for all levels of hiking enthusiasts, photographers and those who enjoy the revitalizing pure mountain air. Also let us teach you how to rope or tune up on your roping skills.       Note: These are not planned as organized or pampered weeks. We try to address the needs of the ranch and livestock in getting prepared for the upcoming season.
