The Butner Family

In 2007, Cole and Sherri Butner and their four wonderful children Brooke, Shawn, Tanner and McKaylyn took over management of the Box "R" ranch from owner Irv Lozier.  Cole and Sherri are no strangers to the Box "R" having worked for Irv since their teenage years.  Sherri started her career as a cook on pack trips high into the Wyoming mountains while Cole worked as a packer and guide.  Although Cole, a working cowboy, worked with a number of ranches  in Wyoming he never lost his love for the Box "R".  When Irv announced his impending retirement in 2006, Cole and Sherri knew it was time to follow their hearts and return to the Box "R".

According to Sherri, "Cole loves the challenge of riding and breaking horses, we both love being in the mountains, raising our family where we can all work side by side and most of all, fulfilling the dream of keeping a legacy alive."

Cole has added a number of new activities to the ranch to include live cattle roping and team penning and sorting.  Of course a major attraction to the Box "R" is still the opportunity to participate in true ranch activities such as branding and cattle drives either on the ranch or with their wonderful neighbors who make up the Green River Drift.
